Minutes of the meeting of the Representatives of NIT Libraries

(12-13 July2013)

Background

In pursuance to the decision taken in the 5^th Meeting of the Council of NITs (Item No. 5.32) and subsequent letter of MHRD F. No. 33-8/2012-TS.III/dated 7^th December 2012, in the matter of “benefit of e-journal to be made available to NITs”, a meeting of Representatives of NIT Libraries, represented by Librarians and Professors In-charge of Libraries, was convened on 12-13 July 2013. The focus of the deliberations was to propose a strategy for making e-journals available to NITs.

Following resolutions were unanimously made in the above meeting.

1.       It was resolved to form ‘NIT Libraries Consortium’.

2.       It was resolved to constitute an Interim Core Committee with the following members, to come out with the”vision and objectives” of the Consortium.

                                                            iii.      Dr. Kishor  Chandra Satpathy, NIT Silchar

                                                           iv.      Dr. Krishan Gopal, NIT Kurukshetra

                                                             v.      Dr. Abdul Rashid, NIT Srinagar

                                                           vi.      Dr. Manik Mandal, NIT Durgapur

                                                          vii.      Mr. Ritesh Kumar Sahu, MNNIT Allahabad

                                                        viii.      Dr. H. Anil Kumar, IIM Ahmedabad

                                                           ix.      Dr. Sarbrinder Kaur, NIT Jalandhar

3.       It was resolved that the negotiation through this consortium shall come into effect from 1^st January 2014. However, up to 31^st December 2013 all subscriptions are to be settled by the respective Institutions.

4.       It was also resolved that all NITs will submit their requirement, in order of priority, of e-Journals for 2014 to the consortium by 31^st August 2013. However, for the e-Journals of Science Direct,  NITs  will send their priority of subject collections by 31^st July 2013.

5.       It was resolved to propose that NIT Warangal may be requested to act as nodal NIT for the Consortium for the first two years. 

6.       It was resolved to host a website of the consortium at the nodal NIT, that is NIT, Warangal, and the consortium shall function in a transparent manner.

7.       It was resolved to constitute the core committee of the consortium with representation from all the six zones, namely, North, South, East, West, Central and North-east of the country.

8.       In the meeting , following ‘Vision and Objectives’, as prepared by the core committee (para 2) was approved.

VISION

TO PROMOTE EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH THROUGH NETWORKING OF LIBRARIES OF NITs

OBJECTIVES

        I.            To provide a platform to collaborate the procurement of  e-resources

      II.            To negotiate with publishers and/or their representatives for better pricing and/or enhanced content.

    III.            To formulate a model license agreement for procurement of e-resources.

    IV.            To facilitate orientation and training of users and library professionals in use of e-resources.

      V.            To work towards growth and development of library professionals.

    VI.            To promote sharing of the research outputs among the NITs

  VII.            To work towards development of manpower roadmap for libraries

VIII.            To develop a technology road map for libraries
